I (Brady) was thinking today on my way home from work about why I am so excited for The World Race.  There are many reasons, but the one that kept coming at me today was FOCUS.  In college, I played football and every season would start with Fall Camp.  The entire team would arrive 3 weeks before school started and we would have 2-a-day practices.  A typical day looked like this:

7:30 – 8:00 – Breakfast

8:30 – 11:00 – Practice 1

11:30 – 12:30 – Lunch

12:30 – 2:00 – Break

2:00 – 3:00 – Meetings/Film

3:00 – 6:00 – Practice

6:00 – 7:00 – Supper

8:00 – 9:30 – Meetings/Film

10:30 – Lights Out

As you can see, there was not a lot of free time, or time for anything else period.  Fall Camp put a beating on my body and tested my mind and will.  At the same time, I always found it to be a time of great peace.  I had a singular focus and a goal.  I found it amazing how much our team would improve during that 3 week time frame.  Freshman would go from knowing nothing to understanding an entire playbook.  Drills that looked terrible on day 1 looked crisp and clean by day 21.  Every player’s physical endurance would heighten.

In looking forward to the World Race, I am yearning for another opportunity to have singular focus.  I’m excited to work with a team again and build relationships while dedicating our days to the Lord.  I want our team to grow together, fail together, get up together, and serve together.  I’m excited to face challenges and be put in unfamiliar situations- ones where I can’t trust in myself but must trust God and my team.  In short, I can’t wait to see what our group of racers can do in 11 months with our sole focus being to serve Lord Jesus.
