1. Even African people sometimes refer to Africa as a country.  Let’s be honest, I think we have all been guilty of this at some point.  Africa is of course a continent and not a country, but even so, its just so darn hard to remember that sometimes.

2. Huge Avocados – They are ginormous…and only like 50 cents…pretty great.

3. In church people literally dance their pants off.  Not only did our teammate Nick create a nice 15 inch gap down the seem of his pants from getting a little too low, one lady danced so hard that her skirt fell right off.

4. The scenery – this observation is Rwanda specific but the ENTIRE country is so beautiful.  It is called the land of 1000 hills and every hill is lush and green.

5. Chapati – Best breakfast food ever!

6. Weather – 80 during the day and 60 at night.  Not what I expected being right on the equator.

7. Speakers – they know how to bump music here.

8. Muzungus (white people) get a lot of attention here – there just aren’t very many of us, especially outside the city.  One woman we met in a more remote area of a village didn’t believe that we were from America and was convinced that we were city folk who had dyed our skin (think Michael Jackson).  Our hosts daughter explained that she probably didn’t have a TV and had likely never seen a white person before.

9. Kindness – There is just a friendly attitude and an openness here.  People are always out and about on the streets and the culture is much more relationship oriented than schedule oriented.

10. Receptiveness to the gospel (especially in Rwanda) : It is amazing here how many people are open and receptive to the gospel.
