I spoke about my trip today at church. I was so nervous but everyone says I did well. I definitely forgot to say a few things but I trust that God would have reminded me of them if they were meant to be said. After the service I stood near the back doors and handed out my prayer cards to people. (I gave out 50! YAY!)
As I was standing there, a woman walked past and put a dollar bill in my hand. I was so moved and was reminded of this passage:
Mark 12:41-44
Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
Honestly, I would be embarrassed to hand someone a dollar bill. What can that buy these days? A hamburger off the dollar menu at McDonalds, or some cheap toy from the dollar store. How much of a dent can that make when someone needs to raise $13,000? But you know what? That will always be my most treasured donation. And God will bless her more than anyone. Because if she wasn’t embarrassed to give “only” a dollar, it’s because a dollar is all she has.
A lovely friend of mine walked up later and said she wanted to pay for a month of my trip (about $1200 dollars) and just last week our close family friends donated $1000. So God is providing. And every dollar makes a difference. Whether someone can afford to donate a single dollar or 13,000 of them.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. I’m waiting for my account to be updated with the latest contributions and then I’ll let you know where I stand. I appreciate your generosity and I know God will bless you for it. Thank you and I love you all.
