Most of you know that I graduated from college with a degree in Marine Biology and spent a year doing stone crab research in the
Florida Keys. So when God called me to missions for the next year I tried to figure out how God could combine my two passions. This week I found out.

Love

Botswana (the ministry organization we’re living and working with) has been working on a nursery where people can bring abandoned babies. A team that came before us painted the walls and started on a Noah’s ark mural but only got as far as the ark and one giraffe. They asked us to come in and finish the mural by filling the rest of that wall and the remaining three with animals. After moving some boxes we discovered a small toilet in the corner of the room. I was so excited! A logical place to put fish! So I went to work sketching and painting a pair of fish jumping out of the back of the toilet. As I was half way through painting someone moved more boxes and discovered a little sink! I was bummed because it would have made more sense to put the fish there but I took the opportunity instead to draw and paint an octopus holding the sink. I’m not a very good artist but I did enough doodling during my college years to be pretty good at marine animals. I was hoping that God would be able to combine my two passions but he did it in a way that I never would have thought. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t plan on spending the rest of my life painting octopuses in abandoned baby nurseries but it warmed my heart for the day and showed me, yet again, that God answers prayer in totally unexpected ways.

They have been trying to get a permit for the nursery for 3 years now but haven’t been successful. There is a new hospital being built just down the street and it’s scheduled to open in 2 years. They are praying that the nursery will be open and running when the hospital opens so they can receive the babies from there. Please join me in praying that God will work in the government for them to get the permit they need.

Dear God, thank you for giving Love

Botswana the vision for an abandoned baby nursery. I thank you for their faithfulness to build and finish it even before they receive the permit. God, they trust that you will make a way for them to receive the permit so I pray this as well. Please open the right doors in the government for it to get approved. I thank you for all that you’re doing here through these people and pray that you bless them and their ministries. Amen.
