(The second of 3 blogs catching up on ministry in China- the first was The Absence of Awkward Silences)

The next day we followed the man with white hair (read
Elizabeth’s blog- “Follow the Man with White Hair”) and ended up back at the
underground tunnel. We sat with our friend and helped her with her English. One
curious young girl (about 13 years old) stopped and stood behind us, watching
for awhile. This wasn’t strange; just about everyone who passed us stopped to
stare (and some stopped to tell us that the beggars were dangerous). But this
girl stayed and eventually sat down. Suddenly I remembered I had a
Chinese/English phrase sheet we were given at our last ministry site so
Elizabeth started teaching her English and she taught Elizabeth how to say
things in Chinese. The four of us sat there for awhile and eventually another
man stopped and sat down. Then the squishy ball vendors from the tunnel came up. Before long we had a revolving door English/Chinese
class going on the steps of the underground tunnel. People would stop and sit
with us for awhile, leave when they had to and come back when they could. Our
class included business men, tourists, vendors, beggars and thieves (at least that’s
what we were told).

It was amazing how ministry just appeared out of the blue. I
learned that it doesn’t have to be established by some organization. The visit
doesn’t have to be planned. You don’t have to show up somewhere at a certain
time and be shown what to do. All ministry takes is listening to the Lord. He
has it planned and organized and only He knows the time you are supposed to be
there. All we have to do is listen and be obedient.
