Sitting in Botswana we ask ourselves: how can we be 8 hours away from one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and NOT go see it? The answer is, of course, you don’t. So we took a weekend and headed off to Zambia to see Victoria Falls. To read about our adventure getting there read: Who needs a plan? We met the 3 wisemen!

The next question is: how can you get an opportunity to step off the edge of a gorge, free fall for 150 feet reaching speeds of 110 mph, to then have the rope go taught and swing you across the gorge and NOT go do it? It might be easy for some of you to say no, but for me the answer was: I couldn’t.

Jessie and I went tandem. They strap you in to a double harness and attach the ropes. We face backwards and let our heels dangle over the edge behind us. “3…2…1…” We roll back onto our heels and are suddenly free falling through midair, screaming at the top of our lungs, first out of fear and then out of pure exhilaration. Suddenly the rope goes taught and you fly towards the other side of the gorge, laughing hysterically in total disbelief that you just willingly stepped off the edge of a gorge. It was one of the craziest, most fun, biggest adrenaline rushes of my life. It was fabulous. Casey went solo as we sat on the bottom gorge and watched him fall from above and swing down over our heads. Then we got to climb out of the gorge and do it again. The second time I got brave and went solo!

I also went “rap jumping” which is repeling face down (essentially you run down a vertical cliff) and rode across the Flying Fox (aka High Wire). It’s basically a zip line that isn’t angled down. You run along the platform and jump off the edge which pulls you along the line across the gorge. We’re putting together a video of the amazing day we had but we’ve been having technical difficulties so for the mean time, you’ll get pictures.

And that was only the first half of the day. We spent the afternoon exploring Victoria Falls and marveling at it’s enormity. Their gentle beauty and immense power left me in awe.
