Ministry in Nepal
Nepal is now one of my favorite places in the world. I can never get enough of these incredible mountain views. Debreif consisted of us staying at a hostel in Thamel, Kathmandu, Nepal. There, we grew in relationships with our peers and trekkers around the hostel. Its crazy, but I was actually spending more time with the other people in the hostel than the rest of my world race squad. You can meet such quality people in places you’d least expect.
This month we stayed in a house about 2 miles from our ministry host’s house with another team called “the becomers.”
For our first week of ministry, we helped lead a mini DTS (discipleship training school) for 3 days. Earlier that week, we did a small trek up a small mountain where a hindu temple was. Here, we prayer walked a bit, and had a small worship session.
Our second week consisted of us going into the slums of Kathmandu. During the morning, we’d go to a slum about 30 minutes away from the house we were staying. There, our team split into two. One team would play with the slum kids and the other team would prayer walk around the slum. We prayed for people who had stomach pains, legs that didn’t work, kids with fevers and various other ailments and problems. After morning slum ministry, we had free time/lunch time for around 4 hours at our house. Then, in the afternoon, we did basically the same type of ministry at a slum about 15 minutes away.
That weekend, we traveled with our awesome tour guide, Bipin, to Pokhara. There, we stayed in a youth hostel and some tourism around the city. I went canoeing in a lake, saw a waterfall, halfway explored a cave, and my favorite, canyoning. I will have pictures later of canyoning, but to sum it up, I repelled down an 85 foot waterfall, went head first down a natural waterslide, and went cliff jumping.
And last of all, the third week. During this week, we visited our morning slum once, and also helped tutor our ministry host’s kids. In addition to that, we also built relationships with girls in cabin restaurants and dance bars, so the ministry we were with could eventually possibly rescue them.
Please be keeping this ministry in your prayers and also our team as we go to Africa, and the ministry that we are with in Africa.
