I want to give you a little background on me.  My whole life I have loved music.  I have always loved singing and I play the
air drums like no other.  Honestly, I
love sitting in traffic wailing on the air drums.  It makes people laugh at me, and I am ok with
that if it brightens their day in the slightest.  I used to keep a plastic spoon in my car that
I used as a drum stick.  I guess I was
like the guy from Def Leppard…. minus rhythm and skill.

Anyways, I have always loved music and when I became a
Christian I began listening to different music types.  I really got into the messages in Christian
music and I listened to primarily Christian music for a long time.  However, after a short period of time I
became really bored with the music behind the lyrics.  By all means I love to worship Jesus, but the
music seems to be so bland, watered down, and over produced.  I hate to admit that I have gone long lengths
of time avoiding Christian music because it all seemed “the same.”  In Atlanta,
we have a station and their tagline is “safe for the whole family.”  I am not looking for safe.  I am looking for passionate, wild, inspiring,
and overwhelming.

Recently God has been teaching me that being a Christian is
not work, rather it is easy… in theory.
In the Old Testament they had a million rules and regulations to
follow.  In the Beginning, God gave one
command.  He said, do not eat of the tree
of the knowledge of good and evil.  From
the beginning God made things easy.  We
messed that up and had more rules imposed.
Later, God gave ten commands.  We
screwed that up as well.  We added rules
to rules to make sure we did not break the rules.  The religious people of Jesus day had added
so many rules on the Sabbath that it was illegal to heal someone!  That is absurd in my mind, but I am sure I
would have been on board with the idea.

Today, I can honestly say I think we have two commands from God,and if
we obey these two we will be obedient to all things God desires.  Jesus said, love God and love your
neighbor.  If we can do these two things,
we will fulfill all the law because the law is rooted in love.  This is a platform of freedom and Grace not
rules, regulations, stipulations, and demands.

(This is Jesus healing)
God is showing me that Worship is more than song, that it is
an attitude and a lifestyle.  He has also
showed me that the
songs we sing can be ours, our very own.  I love some hymns and I love contemporary
Worship music.  However, the words
      do not
always express what is on my mind and heart.
Sometimes in Church I have to sit down cause to sing the song would
      be a
lie.  Honestly, I change the words of a
lot of the songs.  I like to sing to God
not about God.  For example, the song
says,
“Who is this King of glory?”  I
sing, “You are the King of glory.”  I like
my lyrics to be to Him, and that engages my heart more.  I
find it easy to sing a song I know all the
lyrics to rather than to sing a song to God.
However, this is not what worship is about.

In His infinite kindness God is teaching me that I can make
my own songs.  Like I said earlier I think
some Christian music is not my thing.
Therefore, I listen to a lot of secular music.  I am careful what I listen to because I do
think life and death are in the power of the tongue.  Today, I was listening to Matt and Kim.  This song has a really fun beat and makes me
tap my toes.  God showed me that I had my
own lyrics to this song.  It was so
freaking cool!  I sang my own song to God
this morning, it was what I had to say to Him and it was to a really cool
song!  I think the coolest part is it is
biblical to sing a new song!  God desires
our hearts, not our mouth, our hands or our feet… just our hearts!
