(Training camp was just way to involved to be put into just 1 blog post(
I SURVIVED!!!!!!!!!! PTL!!!!!!!!
First the backstory behind the title of this blog: We had a tradition at my HS where we had a senior breakfast after graduation dress rehearsal. It was your usual food: pancakes/sausage/eggs, and then we had a speaker *cue eye roll* anyways it turned out that our speaker was the local former contestant on a TV show called Survivor. To be honest I really don’t remember the whole speech, but the part that I do remember is his opening story about having to eat a cooked grasshopper and the best way is to first remove the legs & feelers since they are most likely to get caught in the back of your throat then eat it head first while chewing using the back teeth just enough to swallow and not gag. I never thought that I would actually ever need to use this advice, but as I’ve been learning lately, anything can happen even the weird stuff along with fact that God does have a sense of humor in times like this (which I have mentioned before in my blogs) along with the fact that I am either blessed or cursed with such excellent recall memory as I haven’t figured that out yet either.
Here are some of my takeaways from my training camp experience:
1. There was a reason that I was thrower and not a sprinter during my track & field career as I am not made to run more that 200m at once. As the TC fitness test reminded me of how much I hated fitness testing in gym back in school, plus I felt like I wanted to die after running it (keep in mind I had my 40lb pack on too in the Georgia heat) even tho I have spent the past 7 months working out at the gym.
2.I am def the master when it comes to being able to sleep just about anywhere.
3. TC has cemented the fact that nothing really fazes me.
4. I think I’ll be able to keep up with the young’uns Hahahahaha as being around them keeps me young. (I’m turning 33 in a couple of weeks)
5. I should have packed my sleeping pad after all.
6. I am officially a master packer of bags as I am still amazed that I was able to figure out a way to get all my gear in my backpack
7. Driving to training camp was def worth it as that was something that I had constantly been debating about over the last few months.
8. No matter how hard I try: I suck at using chopsticks
9. Never underestimate the importance of a good power charging bank for your phone
10. After surviving the Arctic Edema challenge in the Tough Mudder-taking a cold bucket shower was a piece of cake
My squad/team is pretty awesome! GO P SQUAD!!!!!! GO GREEN!
I also had my own personal debrief session as I traveled to Atlanta for the rest of the weekend. I can now finally cross off the Braves stadium off my list of baseball stadiums I need to catch a game at and I also went to see the College football HOF, and also crossed another HOF off my travel bucket list as well.
6 weeks till Launch
Look out for part 2 of my blog about training camp
