Temptation: why does it seem like it is stronger when you are a Christian? I pose this question because it is something that I have been wondering myself for I have been dealing with this sensation for the last couple of weeks.
The temptation? the desire to put in my two weeks notice at work before I leave for training camp as compared to my plan of telling the rest of my leaders and submitting it after I get back. I have been struggling at work as things are growing ever more stressful every week it seems to me, and it is taking a toll on me, and to put it simply it sucks as I feel like I can’t talk to anyone about it.
But I have to stop myself for I know that this is Satan testing me for like God he too knows my desires, and wants me to go against God and act on them for he knows just as well that I have a past of giving in to my temptations. Usually the temptations are small and harmless, but I know that I have faced some much bigger temptations in my life, and while I must admit that I did give in to some of them, I did manage to overcome other temptations that were presented to me including the ultimate temptation.
The reason why I was able to overcome every one of these temptations in my life?
Simple, my faith as it turned out was stronger then I had thought it was, and in a way God quietly showed me that it was, but hearing my cry/prayer for help when I hit the low point of my life
I’ve learned that when things seem to be going rough, and the feeling like you are being tempted by Satan that it is always a good idea to pray, and knowing the fact that God will never leave you. Yes, sometimes God will put things in your path to help you learn to trust him, It’s always a comforting thing to know that he will always be there to back you up if things become too much to bear, and will help you out of the jam.
1 Corinthians 10:13: No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
This is something that I have to remember each time I get that feeling
As I’ve learned temptation is everywhere and is everything. It is one of those things that we as Christians will never be able to escape from as long as Satan is still in play, but as mentioned before, we do have a advantage over Satan, and that advantage is our faith in God/Jesus, and knowing that Jesus himself “fought” off Satan.
1 Peter 5:8-11 ESV
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Til next time your fellow sister in Christ,
Bonnie
