As many of you know I play this little game called golf. I learned how to play the game when I was 7 years old by my dad, and there were many times that we played the game together from that point til I left for college. After about 14 year break I finally picked the game back up last year by joining my church’s ladies league, and instantly I fell back in love with the game (even if I may have a love/hate relationship with it sometimes). I am so grateful that I picked the game back up again for it has not only gave me a sense of purpose, but it has either reminded me or taught me a few lessons that I can apply to my life as well.
Here are some of the life lessons I’ve learned from golf:
1. The value of friendship- it is because of golf why I have an incredible friendship with 3 incredible mature ladies who like to have fun, and who don’t mind putting up with me hahahahaha
2. How to be humble in both victory & defeat- yeah this one still needs work with me, but I’m working on it
3. Never stop learning- I’m always studying both golf & in life as being a lifelong learner is important to me.
4. Stop and smell the roses
5. Enjoy the scenery
6. Find something you love & do it no matter what
7. Learn to laugh at yourself
8. It’s ok to screw up- We aren’t perfect so why try to be as it just causes stress, and stress isn’t cool
9. Learn to block out the haters- This is something that always amazes me how the pros can have a crowd following them, but still are able to maintain their focus.
10. God has given you your talents, use them.
11. Hitting a ball is a very effective stress reliever
12. Loyalty- After I started playing with my ladies my scores starting improving which made other gals in the league take notice, and soon I was invited to join their group, but I would always turn them down, and stayed with my ladies.
13. Don’t judge a book by its cover
14. Unexpected blessings can come out when you least expect it- see #1
15. Patience
16. No matter how good/bad you are at something as long as you are doing it with friends it makes it all worth it.
17. Golf is a universal language
18. Don’t overwhelm yourself
19. But don’t be afraid to try something new
20. Golf is a perfect excuse to have a drink with friends
Maybe once my race is done, I’ll start training to qualify to be on the LPGA tour since I’m going to be looking for a new line of work once I get back in August 2019 (I can dream right?)
Til next time you fellow sister in Christ,
