I am sitting here in the Miami airport, writing this blog as my squad and I are in the middle of our first travel day as we spent all day yesterday chilling in the Atlanta airport before flying to Orlando, and then flying down to Miami for a short layover before Finally hopping on our plane to head to Belize & the offical start of my race.
So here’s the recap of the travel day up til this point:
We arrived at the airport at 10am due to the check out rules of our hotel. My team and I found a spot up the second floor of the atrium of the public area of the airport where we sat and relaxed for a few hours until 5 when we were able to check in for our flight. After we checked in & went through security (where my carryon backpack got flagged due to what turned out to be due to my medication since I have more then the average person should have for a trip, and pretty much got accused of being a drug smuggler by the TSA agent- I could tell this by her actions & facial/body language towards me.), then we all met up at the gate and once again sat, ate dinner & chilled before we boarded the first leg of our flight to Orlando.
The flight to Orlando was uneventful as I just sat in my seat & listened to my music since that is the only thing that helps me since I get nervous flying.
We arrived in Orlando and proceeded to get our big packs before finding a area to make camp for a few hours til our flight to Miami. Security wasnt as bad going through this time since I took out my non important meds & put them in my big pack, but I got a mini patdown & I usually dont mind but the TSA agent touched one of sensitive areas of my upper back & I glared at her as I rubbed that area of my back, but otherwise everything else went smoothly
I now understand why they had us do the airport overnight layover scenenio at training camp as it is a def thing out on the Race, but spending the night in a real airport is alot better then the fake airport they set up at training camp. I actually slept a little better in the real airport then I did at training camp as i got a solid 2 hours of sleep vs waking up every hour
As i mentioned above I’m now chilling at our gate at Miami airport drinking my Starbucks as my 37 squadmates are all around me with a majority of them are sleeping on the floor just waiting til our last flight to Belize!!!!
In previous blogs I have mentioned the fact that God has a sense of humor, and well the fact that I am going to be serving on a mission with part of our travel stopping in Orlando as that was the dream mission location for Elder Price in the musical Book of Mormon.
On a totally different topic, I am happy to annouce that I have reached my 13K fundraising milestone! Next month is the deadline to meet that goal, and now I don’t have to worry about that & that is a huge relief to me.
This is also my last blog from the States as the next time I will be able to write a blog, I’ll be in the coastal town of Independence Belize.
We are not affected by Hurricane Michael as we are going to be flying to the east of the storm, but please pray as a couple of my squadmates are from the areas of the state that is getting hit by the storm.
