What’s up everybody! It’s my first blog post, and I’m super pumped to be writing the first of what I hope to be many blogs about this awesome journey that I am about to embark on in the coming year called World Race. But first allow me to introduce myself:

My name is Bonnie Bakewell, and I’m from Northville, Michigan which a located about 20 miles west of Detroit, and have lived here my whole life.  I am a only child which has had a huge impact in growing up as it is one of the things that have helped shaped who I am as an adult.  My family and friends mean the world to me since I consider my friends extended family, and all my friends are from all different walks of life which to me is pretty cool (I’ll be talking about some of them later on in this blog)

After graduation from Northville High I attended Capital University in Columbus Ohio where I graduated with a BA in History with a double minor in Political Science/Historic preservation.  During my time Capital, I continued my Track & Field career as a thrower on the track team, was a faithful member of Campus Crusade for Christ and Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was highly involved in Alpha Phi Omega. I lived on the East coast for 2 summers working and as a historical interpretation ranger for the National Parks Service before coming home to Michigan.

Here’s what I’m currently doing/my interests:

I am currently working as a electronics team member for Target for the last 5 years.  I love my job, and all of my fellow team members and the leadership team that we have at 872.

When I am not working I have a wide variety of hobbies/interests:

Sports (I played both basketball & softball in addition to being on the Track team) /attending sporting events especially American football/baseball/hockey games.  I am also a diehard University of Michigan fan as well as a fan of the Detroit pro teams.

golfing (I’m on my church’s ladies golf league),

working out/running in races like Tough Mudder/Warrior Dash,

anything that has to do with the outdoors

woodworking

photography (I’m currently pursuing a certificate in photography, and yes I will be bringing my camera along with me on the race to document everything along with my gopro),

video games

Euchre (It’s a type of card game for those of you that don’t know about.  It’s really fun and if you wanna learn I try my best to teach you!)

social media

travel

American History especially the American Civil War & Civil War reenacting (where I portray the Confederate Civilian life which comes as a shock to a lot of people since I’m a born and bred Northerner)

listening to music especially rap & Musical Theatre

anything Marvel related

Overall, I am a pretty laid back kind of person but I am a little shy when I first meet new people, but I open up pretty quickly then I am pretty outgoing.  I am a free spirited tomboy who is also a nerdy jock as that’s the best way that I can describe myself.

My pledge to you as my readers is this: I promise to be real with you as I write and share this blog with you about my journey both before & during the race, all the highs, lows and everything in between. I hope you will enjoy reading this blog as much as I’m going to enjoy writing it.

If you have any questions for me that you would like answered, I’ll be happy to address them for you guys (hey I might even do a few Q&A blog posts if there’s enough questions)

Til next time- Your fellow sister in Christ,

Bonnie B
