Ok so I have been waiting to say that for so long haha.

After 4 planes & 2 overnight sleeper buses I have made it to Hanoi- the capital of Vietnam (as I found out since I’ve always thought Saigon was the capital).  So yeah I just got done with a week of travel.  I hated the flying part as I have an issue with being able to sleep on the planes so I was up for over 30 some hours, but I slept like a baby on the sleeper buses as I’ve had practice sleeping like that from all the times that I spent sleeping in my aunt’s motorhome on the bunk above the cab when I was younger.

Anyways I’m here in Hanoi resting & preparing myself for the month here exploring the city and having fun while i’m at it.  I am taking this weekend to rest because as you can imagine i am pretty tired & jet lagged from travel but I feel like I managed to bounce back quicker from jet lag/tiredness then I thought would as I feel like I’m more conditioned for longer travel)

So yeah here are some highlights:

– while in Saigon I went to visit the War Remants Museum, and it was so interesting for me especially being a historian as I finally got to learn about the Vietnam war from the vietnamese perspective & it def had a anti American twist on it I felt but as a historian it’s not my place to judge either side.

– I literally cried when we landed at Tan Son Tnut Airport as that is the same airport that was the American air base during the war where my dad served.  I just wished that I had more time to explore the airport

– stopped on the city of Da Nang there is a really cool bridge shaped like a dragon that I heard about.

– also while in Da Nang I had Pho for the first time & I enjoyed it.  I also had a local who was walking by poke fun at me & my attempt at eating with chopsticks before trying to show me how to use them. I was not amused so I’m never eating with chopsticks again while I’m here.

– arrived in Hanoi on the 11th & after I got settled i went to get a full body massage.  That was an interesting experience for me but I’m def game to do it agian.

So those are some highlights so far as I’ve only been in Hanoi for 24 hours but I’m hoping to get out and explore the city this afternoon as there is just so much history here to make my historian heart happy seriousness I’m really in my element here with history & being in a major city so its gonna be a fun month for me. In case your wondering I’m used to walking around exploring major cities-both in the US & international.

Be on the lookout for more blogs about my adventures this month in Hanoi!

Till next time
