And she’s not backing down
This girl is on fire
She’s walking on fire
Looks like a girl, but she’s a flame
So bright, she can burn your eyes
Better look the other way
You can try but you’ll never forget her name
She’s on top of the world
Oh, we got our feet on the ground
And we’re burning it down
Oh, got our head in the clouds
And we’re not coming down
Everybody stands, as she goes by
Cause they can see the flame that’s in her eyes
Watch her when she’s lighting up the night
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”-Colossians 3:12-14
One of the hardest things for me to do growing up was being able to connect to people and develop a friendship with them. So one of my fears coming onto the World Race was being able to fit in with my squadmates, and maybe even developing a deep friendship with a few of them.
One of my prayers heading into the 10 days of training camp was just that I was to be able to connect with at least one of my squadmates on that deep level.
Out of the 32 of my squadmates, there was one of them who I was the most intrigued by, and excited to meet that first day, but whenever the opportunity came for me to finally introduce myself to her, I backed down as in all honesty I was intimidated by her for some reason, and it wasn’t until day 4 of camp that I had my first real interaction with her when we placed on a “team” during one of the team building exercises that we did to help determine our first teams for the first half of the race. The exercise that we had to do was one where we had to get the 5 of us across a “bridge”, but the catch was that we all had to have our feet touching at least one of the “rocks”, and if we failed then the person who failed was either “blind” or “mute”.
One point I messed up, and ended up “blind”. So my squadmate had to help guide me as we all tried to complete the exercise, and it was during this that I felt a vibe between us that I have never felt before with anyone, and I didn’t know it then but that was the Holy Spirit working among us, and I could sense that this squadmate was special.
In the nights leading up to us finding out our teams, I prayed that if it was God’s will that I be put on the same team as her, and God answered that prayer.
That is one of my favorite memories of training camp when I received that piece of paper with not only her name, but the names of the 4 other ladies who would eventually become Team Surrendered.
“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”-Mark 16:15
Just who is this awesome squadmate/ former teammate?
Her name is Kaitlin (or as I call her K)
“A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.”-Proverbs 27:9
Where do I even begin to tell about just how awesome Kaitlin is?
First, we have a few things in common that we ended up bonding over. Besides our love for our Lord and Savior, and a desire to serve him, Kaitlin and I also bonded over our love of dogs, ice cream, anything cookies & cream. Those things laid the foundation of a friendship that I believe can only be Holy Spirit led, and I am a firm believer in the fact that when the spirit puts someone in my life, there is reason that person is in my life, and that it was meant to be, and my friendship with her is proof of that.
One thing that one may not know about me is that I have a nickname that I have had since I was young and that nickname is Bon Bon. Coming onto the World Race was one of those times that I hoped people wouldn’t pick up on that until Kaitlin and I met, and she started calling me by that name.
That is a nickname of mine that only a select few people are allowed to call me by, and even then there has to be a certain level of friendship before I grant permission to be called by that nickname, but I didn’t want to do anything to compromise our new friendship, so I let it go, and as a result that is something that has grown our bond, and I love being called that nickname by her.
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”-Hebrews 10:24-25
Kaitlin is one of the most compassionate, obedient, bold, powerful, strong, kind, confident, humble, gentle, loyal, wise, hard working, and patient person I have ever met. She cares deeply for those around her, and is always one to listen whenever someone needs to talk. Kaitlin has the amazing gift to be able to speak truth over you, and to encourage you in whatever you need encouragement in. I love just how intentional she is as it shows her true heart for others, and just how much she goes beyond the limit when it comes to care for those around her whether it is one on one or in a group. I love how she is such a quiet leader to those who are around her, and because of all of these traits she is an inspiration to me.
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”–1 Thessalonians 5:11
Kaitlin is such a passionate & deeply loving woman of our awesome Lord, and she is such a prayer warrior. Her passion for our Lord is such a beautiful thing to witness especially when she gets the opportunity to talk about our Lord as her words are so powerful, and real. There have been times when I have gotten emotional when I have heard her speak about God, and what he is teaching her, and to hear that passion in her voice is just so awesome, and I love it!
Seeing her grow in her teaching ability is just incredible to witness as that is an example of how God works in our lives to help us grow as his daughters, and personally it has been so awesome to see her grow in this because this is where I have encouraged her to not back down if a teaching opportunity came about as I saw that she had this gift from the beginning, and to see it come full circle and the confidence that she has when she speaking to us is just an beautiful thing to witness in her.
Kaitlin has such an incredible testimony to her faith and her walk with the Lord, and seeing her grow in her intimacy with him is just so encouraging to see as one can tell just how much it means to her to be able to grow in that area of her life as it is such a huge part of who she is as a person, and seeing that is such an inspiration as well.
God has done so many great things through her service to him so far this year, and she has def left her mark on the people that she has come into contact with as well as the communities in which she has served in so far on the race.
“Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives and follow the example of their faith.”-Hebrews 13:7
” As Iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend.”-Proverbs 27:17
I am so blessed that God has put Kaitlin into my life by means of the World Race as I know that my race would look totally different without her.
Kaitlin has taught me things about myself that I never knew were there inside of me or things that I do that what I thought was good but instead was actually holding me back from growing as a sister in Christ. During team time, simply sitting next to her during feedback helped me to stay grounded. Any feedback that she has given me, whether it was encouraging or constructive, I took note of that feedback & made an effort to work on it.
I have the highest respect for her.
I am also so blessed and honored to call her not only my friend, but my fellow sister in Christ.
I am also so incredibly proud of her, and all her hard work as one of our squad leaders, and it was such an honor for me to be able to affirm her when it was announced that she was going to be one of the raised up squad leaders. (my hand literally shot up when our squad mentor asked for someone to affirm her, and I had to fight back my own tears when I was affirming her as that was just how happy I was for her and her new role, and I think she got emotional too during my affirmation of her.)
I will forever cherish all of the memories from our time on the race together.
Thank you for everything, and you are so special to me.
Plus Kaitlin is one of the best dancers on the squad when it comes to doing the Church Clap

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAITLIN!!!!!!!!
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”-1 Peter 4:10
I cannot wait to see where God takes you in your life after the race, but I do know that he does have exciting plans for you, and know that no matter what or distance, I will always be there supporting you like a friend should, and I will be excited to follow your journey in this crazy thing called life.
I want you to know that no matter what my life is going to be like I will always have time to talk if you ever need to for any reason for I am always one text, call, marco polo away to talk about anything as I want our friendship to be lifelong.
