After an 8 plus hour bus trip from Honduras, I have made it to month 3 in El Salvador! (which is only the 2nd most dangerous country in the world mine you-haha). I was finally looking forward to it just being my team and I serving in our ministry after spending a crazy all squad month as well as spending over 8 hours on a bus with the rest of P squad.

Not so fast as we first had to have a debrief to debrief all squad month “cue eye roll”

Anyways, we spent the weekend at the YWAM base in San Salvador with the theme being “rest & boundries”.  While debrief was about as boring as sitting in a church committee meeting discussing the budget in my opinion, it still had a few interesting moments & revelations, so here they are:

1. I suck horriably at yoga

2. If you need to escape for a few hours the mall is actually not that bad

3. I seriously need my alone alone time which is dang near impossible on the Race.

4. It was interesting to learn more about the gospel writer Luke the man from one of my squadmates who did such an awesome job presenting her teaching.

5. My squad is still just as competitive as I remember (if you wanna read more about our competitiveness go read my blog about squad wars)

Which brings me to the title of my blog.

So on Saturday afternoon, we had all squad activity which we weren’t told much beforehand besides wear tennis shoes for a lot of running would be involved.

As it turned out it was a game called fugitive- a modern day version of cops & robbers, and it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time as just picture 37 young adults running around the streets of San Salvador & getting strange looks from locals as we were running around or crouching & hiding behind walls/in between cars or in the trees like I did.  It was a blast!

The point of the game: The squad was divided up into 6 teams different from our own & 2 teams stayed back at base to guard it & to catch the people from the other 4 teams trying to get back to base within a certain amount of time from 2 different starting points without getting caught for points.

My 2 favorite moments from the game

1. My team was one who was gaurding base-Trying to catch my Team Surrendered teammate who was on a different team for the game who is an ex distance runner who I managed to corner & I caught her but she was a fighter & tried to get free while I held onto her as long as I could before I let her go in fear of injuring her but I still got credit for the capture

2. My game team turn to be the fugitives: we were coming from the starbucks meeting point & everything was fine until we hit an ambush of capturers- I made it through the main chase & thought I was in the clear till another one of my Team Surrendered teammates came out from behind a car directly in my path luckily I saw her in time & stood a distance away planning my next move while “taunting” her to come after me & was able to keep her at bay while making my advancement.  The only reason I got caught was another one of my squadmates came out of nowhere & blocked my path so I peacefully gave up & let her catch me. But if it hadn’t been for her I could’ve outran my teammate hahaha & made it back to base.

My knee hated me afterwards but it was so worth it as that was def one of the memories that I talk about after the race.

So yeah after finally saying peace out to the rest of my squadmates my team & I made it safely to our ministry host for the month in Santa Tecla El Salvador.  More to come about our life here this month so stay tuned.

Till next time your fellow sister in Christ,

Bonnie
