Community:1. a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristics in common
2. A feeling of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
If I had to pick one word to describe the World Race, community would be it, and these two definitions sum it up pretty well and it seems to be a common thing that has been brought up in all the other racers blogs that I read, and that is something that I am looking forward to while on the Race as I think it will be fun to be around other young adults who share in some of my common interests. All my life I have been a part of a community whether it was as big as just being in my hometown to something smaller like school or my church, and even to the point of the fact that I lived in the dorms all 4 years of college, community has been a huge part of my life whether or not I realized it.
But then again I am also dreading the idea……..
Before you jump on me just hear me out. First of all I really do enjoy being around people as mentioned above, and like most people I need that human interaction as part of a healthy life, but I also need my alone time to help me recharge and refocus so that I can enjoy life and enjoy the company of those around me. I must confess that I can be a bit of a introvert then a extrovert (my Meyers-Briggs lied), but trust me I have started to get better at being more outgoing & less shy (which is why I think its so cool that we are doing both groupme and Skype as I don’t know about others but I know come training camp it’ll be easier for me to do the face to face meetings).
So I guess my point is this, it won’t be uncommon to find me off somewhere at the end of the day whether it be in a common area/rooftop/outside deck/whatever is available at our “home” just sitting there staring up at the sky (if I’m outside) with my headphones in or just zoned out on the couch with my headphones in, working in photoshop editing my photos, or coming to bed at midnight or 1am as that’s just me since I am more of a night person then a morning person, but this is the way that I need to do it in order to recharge & not be a grumpy old woman towards others as that is the last thing that I want to do.
With that being said I love going one on one with people too, and I am always open to talk about anything, and be asked about anything so if I am outside sitting by myself, don’t be turned off by that, and come up to talk to me as there is a good chance that I’m done with my personal time with God, and I still sitting out there because I enjoy it. So if anyone ever needs to talk, just know that I’m always there and open to listen.
Til next time your fellow sister in Christ,
Bonnie
