I am so happy to finally have month where we have a set schedule, and we have our saturdays for adventures, and an opportunity to go sightseeing around this area of Honduras.

For my first adventure day, I had the option to go visit the Cristo Del Picacho (think Christ the Redeemer only on a smaller scale) It is a National Monument, and so it really means alot to me to be able to visit a National park/monument in another country as it makes my park ranger heart very happy)

Week 2 adventure day was going to a mall, yes a mall, now I know that may not sound like a fun adventure day, but let me till you after spending a month in a country that has no fast food, and being in a area where the closest big city is 3 hours away, getting to go to an actual mall was a treat for me and those squadmates that also went to the mall.  I normally am not a fan of going to malls even back home, but this time I was excited to spend the day in one.  A group of us went up and ate in the food court, and I ate Popeyes chicken for lunch, I then went with my squadmate Re to the movie theater, and we saw Brohemin Rhapsody in was in English but had Spanish subtitles, and it was SO GOOD!!!! One of the finny moments was when I brought my ticket via the automatic ticket machine, and due to my limited Spanish ability, I brought the senior citizen ticket, but no one picked up on that plus it was cheaper then a standard adult ticket.  It was a dinner theater setup as there was a tray table at every seat and the seats were super comfy.  After the movie, I did a little shopping as I wanted to see if I could find another pair of my bike shorts that I wear under my regular shorts as I forget my other pair back in the states, and I did manage to find a pair, so I was happy.

Thanksgiving week:  On Thanksgiving we had the choice to go to a nearby town called Santa Lucia.  I went as I want to soak in every opportunity to see as much of this region as I can for this region is just so picturesque.  We explored the town, and went up to it’s highest point to check out the views, which were stunning as can be, and there is a large cross statue up there as well.  We had lunch at a local place, and I finally had pupusas mixtos for the first time, and they were amazing!  A pupusa is a meat/cheese filled pancakes, and they are a central american dish, and they are so good!  After spending half of the day there, we returned back home to hang out before heading to the hotel for our Awakening event.

The Awakening happened, so our week 3 adventure day got moved to Monday, and we had the choice to skip ministry to have the opportunity to go hiking up to a coffee plantation that our host’s brother in law owns, which I chose to do instead of going to ministry.  The hike was hard as we are in the mountains of Honduras so the elevation took a minor toll on me as I am not used to being in the mountains, but living in the mountains this month as def been a adventure.  We made it to the coffee plantation, and let me tell you the hike was so worth it as the views were so awesome!  We spent the entire morning/early afternoon up there, walking around the land, learning about how coffee is grown, and had lunch.  Almost all of my team went as well which was cool as it gave us some time to bond more especially since we really haven’t spent alot of time together this month like the other months.

Our final adventure day really wasn’t much of an adventure day, but a small group of us did got back to the mall to get some shopping done.  I had a good time as I brought a few small things (mostly things to work on my secret Santa gift as my teammates and I put our names in and randomly picked one to exchange gifts on Christmas morning, and ate lunch at Popeye’s once again as I have grown to really like that fried chicken joint (I think its better then KFC actually).  After we got back, I just chilled at the house for the rest of the evening with my squadmates.

So yeah those were my adventure days this month, and while I wished I could’ve gotten out to see more of the region, I’m glad that I was to see what I got to see as who knows when I’ll have another shot to come back to Honduras.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Til next time your fellow sister in Christ,

Bonnie
