I made it to the Philippines!! I flew into Manila and arrived about 10 am on Tuesday morning. I kind of missed out on Monday because I was on a plane and switching time zones and all that. We are staying in Quatro at a ministry called Kids International Ministries in the Yunjin Lyso Ministry Center. Our whole squad along with the other September squad are here for the week to do some more training. At the end of the week, we split up into our teams to go do ministry. Right now, I would say we are slightly spoiled. That’s probably an understatement. We each have a bed, warm water, ICE for our drinks, incredible food (homemade banana bread with peanut butter for breakfast this morning), and electricity…which means fans! Colene and Jeff Long are the missionaries here and they have incredible servant hearts. There are several ministries they do here from New Faith Family Children’s Home to training women to be cosmetologists. They have been here since 91 and have done awesome things. My first friend here’s name is Samuella. She is 7 years old and her mom works here. She has got a beautiful smile and gives great hugs! After lunch today, we all piled in to jeepneys (taxis/buses) to drive a couple hours to a waterfall…you know for a quick swim! It was gorgeous! No leaches this time Dad. PS the traffic is a bit of a faith experience. There are 2 lanes of traffic and for some reason the small space between lanes is filled by mopeds and motorcycles. Glad I’m not driving J Its still very surreal that this experience is actually here! I’m in the Philippines. I’m not coming home until next July/August. I know there are lots of prayers going up on my behalf and I just want to say…keep them coming! And THANK YOU! Add to your prayers that I am the finance person for my team. Pray for organization and discernment while dealing with finances please! Its going to be a wonderful, challenging, life changing year!
