Hello all,
Where to start?
Family: I have an incredible family that I adore! I am very much a daddy’s girl. My dad coaches football in Abilene, TX. My mom is where my love for missions comes from. She works for ACU, where I went to school. I’m the second oldest of 4 kids. Dale and his wife Triston live in San Antonio. Dale teaches and coaches and Triston is a nurse. Doug is a junior physics major at ACU. Katy is a sophomore in high school. She is in the life skills program at her school. She is the reason I became a special ed teacher. I am 5’9 and other than my sister and my sister in law, I am the considered the short one because I’m not over 6′.
Work: I taugh inclusion as a co-teacher in biology and english classes at a high school along with coaching volleyball and basketball. I decided I wanted to teach my own class and that I wanted to work with the lower functioning children so I got a new job. This year I teach a bahavior class at an elementary school. It’s tough! I have been stretched and challenged in all kinds of ways this year. I keep saying that I know I’m learning a lot and I hope that my eyes, ears and heart are open to all the things God is teaching me.
Missions: I went on my first mission trip when I was 14. I have been to Mexico, Denver, Huntington Beach and Ghana. I spent 2 summers in Ghana working at an orphanage which is where I truly fell in love with doing mission work. I would love to start an orphanage that specifically caters to children with disabilities. It breaks my heart the lack of resources they have for such a common occurence. Having a disability does not have to mean that you can’t live a purposeful life. I love helping them realize their abilities.
World Race: As I said, I’m a teacher and I get summers off. I was looking for a trip to go one this summer. A co-worker of mine had a friend of a friend who went on the World Race and suggested it to me because she thought it was just a summer thing. I pulled up the website and it grabbed my heart. All of the right doors started opening and here I am. I am thrilled to see all the things God is going to teach me about Him, about how to love and serve others, and about myself.
Favorites: I love my Savior! I love my friends and family! I love sports, watching and playing them – volleyball is my favorite. I love Dr. Pepper…gonna be tough to go without it, I think I’m going to have a hard time finding it in all of the countries we’re going to. I love to laugh. I love to eat. I love watching all kinds of movies. I love getting pedicures. I love taking pictures. I love sunrises and sunsets (God is such an incredible artist.) I have fallen in love with reading, since I’ve been out of school and don’t have to do it anymore. I love chapstick. I love shoes!
I think that about sums me up. If you have any questions…feel free to ask. Thanks for taking the time to read this and be apart of this journey with me.
