10 reasons to be thankful Malaysia edition

1.       Hospitality – Never before have I seen Philippians 2:7, “taking the very nature of a servant,” acted out before. We have been able to serve people who were genuinely grateful to have us. We were served just as much if not more than we served them. I will be taking a lesson in hospitality from the people of Malaysia.

2.       Milo – If you know just one things about me…you probably are aware that I have a slight addiction to Dr. Pepper. It’s a little bit hard to find in Asia. Milo has become a decent substitute whether just consumed in a hot chocolate fashion, or added to coffee to make me a mocha latte. Unfortunately, when Dr. Pepper becomes available again, Milo will probably get left behind.

3.       Kenny Roger’s Roasters – This is the wonderful, western restaurant that we were able to eat Thanksgiving at. Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and fruit salad never tasted so good. The icing on the cake was that they serve FREE refills on soda…you can’t find that anywhere in Asia!!

4.       Ipod worship – Most mornings, we would gather after breakfast and worship together. Someone would create a playlist of worship songs and we would praise Him together. Sometimes, on the race you have to get creative…thank God for ipods!

5.       Washing machines – My clothes are 10 times cleaner than they have been since the Philippines. I forgot how much of a difference a washing machine makes!

6.       Prophecy – “Everyone who prophecies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.” I Corinthians 14:3 We have had a couple opportunities to have words of encouragement and strength spoken over us this month, and I am thankful for another outlet to hear from the Lord.

7.       Blue jeans – I decided to get rid of the 2 pair of pants that I brought with me, that don’t fit me at all anymore, and buy a pair of jeans in a smaller size…that do fit me! I love blue jeans J

8.       Joshua our dentist friend – A handful have had teeth problems. I had a crown fall off in Cambodia. It turned out that our contact Janet, is married to a dentist. Joshua let us all come to him, he fixed us up and didn’t charge us a penny. The Lord put us in the perfect place this month to be blessed.

9.       Football – I mean both kinds of football. That probably shocks most of you and shames my dad and brothers…but I have a new appreciation for them both. Thanksgiving usually means football in our house, and I missed it tremendously. I was able to watch Remember the Titans that evening to get my fix. I got a chance to play soccer with handicapped children and it was so much fun. I can handle soccer when it’s in that context!

10.   April – My teammate went home at the end of this month. I knew I loved her, but we said good bye to her this afternoon and I miss her a ton already. I am thankful for this past month to get to soak up time with her. Be praying for her as she starts a new season of her life, and for our team as we enter into a time of transition.

Being blessed by Janet
