10 Reasons to be thankful ” India Edition

1.   Fans: India is really hot and really humid…especially when coming from Nepal. We had an awesome fan in our bedroom that allowed me to sleep through the heat!

2.  Family: As I’ve already said in my last blog, we stayed with an awesome family this month who truly made us part of their family. I got sick a couple times and I definitely had a mom to take care of me.

3.  Preaching: Who would have thought I would ever be thankful for that!?! For one, when I prepare a sermon, I get to process what the Lord has been teaching me and be more intentional about making sense of it. Also, I get so much more out of a church service that I or one of my teammates preach…mostly because I understand what they’re saying but it’s also really great to learn more about what God is teaching them and how they are applying it.

4.  Rooftops: Americans need to start utilizing roof space as a place to hang out. I spent numerous mornings on the roof, having my quite time or partnering with a teammate in prayer. It was a nice place to get away to!

5.  Banana chips: I am telling myself that these are healthier than potato chips…and I’m sticking to it! They are seriously my new favorite snack and I really hope that I can find the right kind of bananas at home so that I can make them for myself. Thank you Amma Rachel for introducing us to them and teaching us how to make them.

6.  Bathrooms: Although we didn’t always have running water…we had a shower head, a flushable, western toilet and a sink that I could brush my teeth in. Bathrooms are one thing I have missed more than I expected to!

7.  Ayla Sloan Coley: I got a phone call from Dale the night I flew out of LAX to begin the race that him and Triston were expecting their first child…and she’s finally here! Cannot wait to kiss that baby girl. I’m also thankful for my WR family that celebrated with me!

8.  Balanced diet: I’ll be honest…Indian food is not my favorite. However…I am extremely thankful that we had meat (usually chicken), a vegetable and some kind of fruit at each meal. I’m also thankful that I was able to pass by the curry most meals because there was plenty of other food to eat. Our pastor was determined to make us all gain ‘kgs.’

9.  Freedom to dream: Obviously when the race is over, I have to decide what I’m going to do next but I’m not really in a place where I can start making plans from the other side of the world. So…I just get to sit around and dream and make plans for what I want to do. I’m thankful for the time to dream and seek God’s direction for those dreams.

10. Joni: Joni is our wonderful squad leader who was with our team this past month. She’s someone on the squad that I’ve always wanted to be able to get to know better and spending a month of ministry together was a great way to do it. She has amazing gifts of encouragement and wisdom that she readily shares with everyone. I’m so thankful to have her as a squad leader, friend and sister.
