Hola Friends!

So a couple weeks agoweek I was away at a Christian camp called “Lake Champion” up in Glen Mills, NY with a group called YoungLIves (https://vimeo.com/116314889). I was there with about 150 teen moms and their babies from the Tri-State Area/Delaware Valley/Washington D.C.,  and Puerto Rico.  I just wanted to share with you some of the awesome things we did via this online video scrapbook: http://scrapbook.younglife.org/playlist/Lake-Champion-Week-10  (I’m in the Champion Challenge video playing musical crates…blindfolded) Below is a description of what young moms can expect from Younglives. I encourage you to share this resource with any teen mom you may know in the city of Philadelphia. In addition to going to camp for a week basically for free (a $550.00 value which the girls only pay $50.00) We meet up once a month to connect with other teen moms in the area, share parenting tips, pair them with a mentor, share a hot meal, play games/arts and crafts and explore their spiritual beliefs (all of this is free).

  • FUN. YoungLives gatherings aren’t just about sitting around! You can plan on plenty of crazy humor and creative activities (not to mention free child care).
  • FRIENDSHIP. Need someone understanding to talk to? We’ll also connect you with a caring adult woman who will help you navigate this phase of your journey with ongoing emotional and spiritual support, as well as wisdom from her own experience.
  • MOMMY TRAINING. If you need it, this new adult friend can also hook you up with practical tips and training that will help you become a better mom.
  • RESOURCES. If you’re looking for help with things like housing, maternity clothes, car seats or baby furniture, we know the right people to call. Just let us know what you need, and we’ll refer you to a helpful organization in your area.
  • GETAWAYS. YoungLives has a week-long summer camp where you can kick back and relax, have fun and explore your spiritual beliefs with your peers. (You have the option to bring your child with you, and camp leaders will make sure you still have some time to yourself.)
