This blog is cut up into 3 parts so Im posting one at a time I hope you enjoy reading about all of my favorite ministries from month 1 to month 5!
Month 1
School bathroom
The first ever ministry my team had was remodeling a school bathroom. Sounds kinda fun right? Well yes, but it was definitely very tedious work. I think like watching paint dry..literally. Anyway even though the project was small didn’t mean we had no impact to the school or the students. I’m sure that even though it was a Christian school these kids struggle with temptation of all high school normalcy. Scraping wall paper off the walls, buying the wrong paint color, and finding creepy spiders in the bathroom is something I would do a million times over again for anyone. As long as I was able to tear it down and rebuild it to be better than it ever was. We decided in the last stage of this project that we wanted to add a chalk board wall and write sweet notes and truth from the Bible. Honestly this was one of the best memories during this project. Every time we walked into that bathroom I was just amazed at the fact that my team and I really did that. Hopefully the kids appreciated something a little more perky and upbeat. I will forever be proud of us for how well our first project turned out.
Month 2
Soup kitchen/animal shelter
So our planned ministry was supposed be going to the township and providing the children and some mothers soup. Most of the time families who live in these neighborhoods aren’t able to provide food on the table for at least 3 meals a week. Not meaning 3 meals a day I mean they don’t have enough money to feed their family 3 times total throughout the week. I really liked this ministry because I got to make personal relationships with the kids. However we only went to this ministry for a week total. You can imagine our disappointment when we just stopped going. It was hard especially because those kids got so attached to us. Although this isn’t the end of this story. In the township there was an animal shelter near by. We decided that on Thursdays when the shelter was open we would help in any way we could. Let me tell you I fell in love. The puppies that came in there were so cute!!! The good part about this ministry was since we were so close to the kids in the townships. Once they figured out we would come time to time, we saw those children every Thursday. They wanted love so bad that they would follow us anywhere. Kind of cute because that’s how our relationship is with the lord. The lord follows us anywhere we go he just wants to pursue and be pursued. It was really sad to go but I know god has his hand upon those children. During the season of that ministry I loved it and I was sad to leave but I didn’t leave my heart there.
