Every day in my office at Eastpoint Christian Church, for the past eight months, I’ve read and re-read a Scripture I have scribbled on a tiny piece of scrap paper. “Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul” Psalm 143:8.

Quite frequently through the latter half of my senior year of college, the beginning of 2016, I thought and thought of moving to Nashville. I talked to my Father about it with the same frequency the thought of it all came up. As I write this, I sit in a coffee shop, “Steadfast Coffee,” in Germantown, Nashville.

All along He has been faithful. All along I’ve been praying that Scripture, “Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul” Psalm 143:8. He clarified “the way” for Nashville, and He also revealed another “way” I am to go. It is called the World Race.

This World Race, this eleven-month missions trip, first popped on my radar on August 28th, 2017. This is now early March. When I say popped up, I mean, the wide-eyed, all-of-a-sudden, spit-out-your-coffee, surprise. I was eating some finger-licking good Buffalo pretzels on the couch one night after work, checking my personal emails on my phone, and then I saw the subject line: World Race August 2018 Routes out now!

After running from the call from late August to early January, he finally gave me peace in surrendering. There’s lots of peace in life when we are walking in line with the beautiful plans God has for us.

Let’s read that again: The beautiful plans God has for us. Not “we” have for “ourselves.” It’s Him. It’s for Him. It’s because of Him. It’s about Him and His plans. He lets us come with Him.

I’m in the middle of a book called, “Nothing to Prove,” by Jennie Allen. It’s a book I recommend to all ladies, with most of its pages appealing to men as well. Allen writes, “So take the first step toward the dream God put in you. Take that first, risky, shaky step in obedience. When you do and God comes through, you’ll laugh and want to take another one” (140, Nothing to Prove, Allen). Golly, did I laugh when He let me read that.

Friends, what is the dream He has placed in your heart? What is keeping you from taking that first, risky, shaky step in obedience? Ask Him to make you know the way to go. He already knows the way. ‘Just’ ask, trust, step toward the dream He has placed in your heart.

To You, God, we lift up our souls.
