After having started our travels about 12pm Friday in Washington D.C. we finally arrived Sunday at 6am local time (42 hrs of travel with only a few hours of sleep…ugg). Riding to where our destination will be for the next few days (somewhere in Nairobi), and seeing the extreme cultural change it hit me….this is no vacation!! I am going to be away for a 11 months! This is no 7 days of relaxation and then get back on the plane to return normal…no….this is my new normal. WOW, my world has radically change!!!
We are staying in a hostel (a community like home) for the next two days before traveling 7 hours west to our ministry location for the next month. Its no hotel here by any stretch but its really its pretty nice…showers (with hot water that works most the time), a shack with beds to sleep in (although the B.O. was pretty strong upon entering), and working toilets, what more can a man ask for?? One of the coolest things I love about what we doing is the fact we are staying in the community with the people and thus we really get the opportunity to interact the people on a real life level. Traveling to the local market was an adventure as 13 of us crammed into into something that is supposed to be a bus and experience the crazy driving of life in Kenya.
I think this is going to be one crazy adventure but I can't wait. I have much more in my heart to share with you but I guess that is going to have to wait till next time. Till then a few pictures for you to enjoy.
Our but ride to our location in Nairobi….wheres Waldo??
