There have been several instances over the course of my life that have shaped the way I believe. One in particular that comes to mind is when my little nephew Lukas was born. Lukas was born with a condition in which his abdominal wall did not close completely causing his liver and intestines to grow outside of his little body. At first doctors said surgery would present many serious complications, and that the chances of Lukas having severe problems his entire life were great. Immediately my brother Bryan and his wife Erin committed Lukas to prayer, praying for the doctors and nurses that worked on him and praying for the Lord’s healing in Lukas’ life. Lukas had a total of 6 surgeries in the first year of his life. (5 within the first two weeks of his birth, and another one at age 1)
The Lord’s hand was on this situation from the doctors that worked on Lukas (his surgeon was a Christian) to complete strangers sending cards, gifts, and offering to pray. The Lord provided in so many ways, and each time made His glory known.
Today Lukas is a strong, healthy, adventurous 3 year old that loves baseball especially the Boston Redsox (he knows the whole team by name!), loves to play outside, and is full of life and energy. I firmly believe that the Lord healed Lukas…as does everyone else in my family. The testimony is amazing…three years later my mind continues to be baffled at the mystery in it all.
I am a firm believer in healing. The Lord heals. He has shown this truth to me time and again, so much so that I have no other option but to believe in it.
James 5:13-15
13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up.
