There are bars on the gates of their hearts….

There are bars on the gates of their hearts.
I get a glimpse through the cracks
I see sadness, brokenness, darkness
There are bars on the gates of their hearts.

There are bars on the gates of their hearts
Like the gated homes I pass daily
Gates raised up so no one can enter
There are bars on the gates of their hearts.

There are bars on the gates of their hearts.
Bars erected from years of poverty, hunger, and shame
Bars set in place to keep you from seeing what is inside
There are bars on the gates of their hearts.

There are bars on the gates of their hearts
Who holds the key?
Who can enter?
There are bars on the gates of their hearts.

There are bars on the gates of their hearts
But Jesus holds the key.
Only He can enter there.
There are bars on the gates of their hearts.

There are bars on the gates of their hearts.
What about your heart?
Is the gate open or closed?
Are there bars on the gates of your heart?

“Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
