I arrived at a place of refuge, Puerta de Refugio, on the outskirts
of Tegucigalpa. At Zion’s Gate Ministry you will find young boys and girls who
were once living on the streets. They were once hopeless, forgotten, unloved,
and with no direction in their life. Today they are full of life. Their hope is
in not in physical things but in Christ. They have received love and a great
amount of grace.
There is much to share so let’s start…
I have been sleeping in a tent outside. Can I tell you I
have the best view of God’s handiwork? The sky filled with bright stars at
night is my ceiling, the rising sun in the morning is my light, the bird with
it’s weird singing is my alarm clock and the wind blowing at night is the
lullaby I go to bed to. Everywhere I
turn I see my Father’s creation and I hear His soft and gentle whisper telling
me, “I love you”.
While being here we have tended the land by clearing large
amount of land using machetes, sifting sand, removing rocks, replacing rocks,
and pulling weeds, washing buildings, clearing the land from dry grass and much
more. The property looks new, clear, and beautiful. Yes, it is manual labor but
boy have I heard my Father speak to me in these moments.
For example, when I fought with a piece of weed for more
than twenty minutes. I soon realized why
it was so hard. Not only did I pull the
weed out of the land but also the rock in which it had intensely wrapped its
roots to. My Father and me are just like the weed and rock. Nothing can
separate us for I have clung to Him but He has a wrapped His arms around me.
His embrace is stronger than any thing.
I have befriended a fifteen-year-old girl named Jennifer. Like
most of the boys here, she is from one of the most dangerous colonies in
Honduras. It’s become my goal to speak life into her and encourage her to
believe she is a beautiful daughter of God created with a purpose. I’m beginning to see a
change; not a physical change but a change in her mind and heart as they are
being renewed through His Word. Continue to pray for her.
As I sit on a rock to observe my surroundings I see life. I
see joy in the warm smile of a twelve-year-old boy. I see the boys and girls free
to be children. They are free to play, free to dream big, free to be a child of
God. They are free in Christ for they have found abundant life in Him.
And to think this place was once the most popular club where
sin ran rampant and had its way in whichever way it desired.
Yes, Lord the new life the children have found in You and
the facelift this property has received all sing along with Gungor , “You make
beautiful things out of dust…”
2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is
a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become
new.
