I was asked to write about how I was called to the mission field.. So here it goes:

I have to be honest and say that I never thought I would have any desire to travel abroad and help others. That always actually used to scare me. Thinking about how people sacrificed their lives, sacrificed things (like getting married) for a calling. But whenever someone would ask me what I want to do in the future.. I would always and to this day say ” I don’t know, but I know I want to help people and make music”.

The music was always a front runner in my life. I have always sang, from as young as I can remember, and I have always used my music as a means to share messages that were important in my life.

The helping others was also there, as I have been involved in numerous ministries at churches, and always loved to be able to help in any way.

Though I loved helping in the church building, singing in the church building…I always had a desire to Go Out to the people, and help and sing for those who may never set foot in a church building.

I became a teacher 3 years ago, and that has been my “mission” field. To love, educate, and be a positive role model for inner-city children.

The dictionary defines Mission as : an important assignment carried out for political, religious, or commercial purposes, typically involving travel.

Well.. the important message I’ve been spreading, has been the love and hope of an exciting life that my faith in Christ has given me. (btw… God doesn’t want a “religion” spread, He wants the truth of His love spread) And I do travel on the train for about 45 minutes to get to work.. So my job could be defined as a mission field.. and so could YOUR job, YOUR school, YOUR whereabouts..

As far as the traveling to other countries parts goes, I became very aware of the issue of human trafficking here in my city, and so I was able to help create awareness and raise some money for a non profit in NYC that is fighting the issue www.restorenyc.org.

And my heart has never been the same. There are so many injustices in this world, and we so comfortably look the other way. I mean I have heard of the issues, I have seen them on documentaries, but God has put this intense desire to see and help first hand.

I hope and pray that this experience will give me lyrics that will create awareness in a culture that is so consumed by “I”, and that there will be a generation that rises up that cries “We” , and shows the love of God by showing love to others. Truly loving our neighbors as we love ourselves.

So… with this NEVER being even a thought in my head.. off I go in July, God-willing, to do what Christ did when he walked this earth. But wherever we are, we can be His hands and feet extended. There is need all around, if we would be willing to open our hearts to be sensitive to it.

So dear one reading, you are called as well..as I have heard before..” The Need is the Calling“…Will you meet the need in your mission field? We are all missionaries.

With His agenda to love,
Bethsaida
