For those of you who don’t know, we left Bulgaria on Saturday, November 4th and did not arrive to Penang until Monday, November 6th due to Turkey closing its borders to United States citizens. However, originally, we were supposed to leave Bulgaria on Wednesday, November 1st and arrive to Penang sometime on Friday, November 3rd. Which you wouldn’t think would be a blessing in disguise, but what you probably haven’t heard much about is the flash flooding that happened to Penang over this past weekend.
This flooding was reported to most likely be a side effect of Typhoon Damrey which hit Vietnam on November 4th.
So thankfully my team and I were kept safe from the flooding—one of the worst that Penang has seen in a long time, according to some of the locals; especially since the majority of the flooding that hit the Georgetown (part of the island portion of Penang) is right in the backyard of where the housing provisions we are staying at is located. God’s hand of provision and safety is so good!
Another blessing is that the local ministry partner that my team and the team that mine is working with this month—Team Estuary—is one of the primary relief work centers that seem to be working with the flood victims. So in addition to the random ministry options that we will be doing this month we will also be doing flood relief work. A unique thing about the ministry partner that we will be working with is that their main focus of relief is the Burmese refugee communities—a people group that is not recognized by the Malaysian government.
What we have been doing so far has been bagging up clothing, toiletries, food, bedding, and all other donations and traveling to the mainland to the refugee villages and handing out the care packages.

So in conclusion, this is a glimpse into what my team will be doing this month and how the closing of Turkey’s borders truly became a blessing of safety in disguise. If you would please pray for the flood victims, as well as all of the refugees, it would be greatly appreciated! They are in desperate need of help and love… lots of God’s love.
Thanks
