Our first week of ministry in Thailand is almost over.. I can’t believe it! We’re still dealing with jet lag and trying to get used to the time change, but it’s getting better. My team and I are living at a school about three hours away from Chiang Mai. It is a public high school with 1,500 students. The campus is amazing! Our house is at the back of the property and we have a lake and mountains in our backyard. Everyday we go to the school from 7:30 to 4. We each have a teaching schedule with different classes and teachers throughout the week. We teach classes within the English department, and so the kids can speak English really well. This first week I’ve taught a few lessons that the teachers give me to teach. For the most part, I’ve spent my classes getting to know the kids and answering their questions about my life and about America. Our ministry hosts are the best. They are English teachers at the school and they have already taken such good care of us. I’m so excited for what these next few weeks in Thailand look like!
As I mentioned in my previous blog, this school is a buddhist school and so our prayer is that we would be the light of Christ and that they would notice something is different about us. Please join us in praying for that! Also, pray for the relationships we will form over the next few weeks with the students and staff here. They are truly some of the nicest people you will ever meet! I can’t wait to see what the Lord will do here.
Another thing my team and I would love for you to pray for is for our homesickness. I never knew it’d be so hard to be away from my family at Christmas time. We’re all feeling sad to not be home and so we would love your prayers!
Merry Christmas a few days early!
Love,Bethany
