Early Wednesday morning at 2:30 we began our travel day to Guatemala. A bus picked us up and we piled our packs on top of it and fit all 50 plus of us onto a bus. It was honestly so fun! The base we’re staying at is so beautiful and I feel so blessed to be staying at such a nice place for the three months we’re here. I’m talking hot showers and actual beds… kinda like a resort? Yes!! We’ve been training and learning all about the culture here and also we’ve had training on how to teach English.

Yesterday we went to a small town near where we’re staying and got to watch an independence day parade. It was so fun to be here and be a part of that. After the parade, I was sitting on a park bench with one of my teammates and an older lady and her grandson came and sat next to me. She started talking to me and one of my teammates translated. She told us about her family and had her grandson say some things to us in English that he had learned at his school. We began to ask her if there was anyway we could pray for her. We all gathered in a circle and prayed over her, her family, and that God would bless and protect them. The whole time she was just crying and thanked us multiple times after this. That reminded me that the smallest things can absolutely change somebody’s day. By allowing her to sit by me on the bench and start a conversation with her, that gave me the opportunity to get to know her. We have plans to see her more as we are here and build a relationship with her. Thank you Jesus for giving me opportunities like this!

The Lord has already been teaching me things to grow in while I’m here. For instance, the words “be still” have been on my heart since I was still at home. He’s teaching me how sweet it is to learn how to be still and to listen to what he’s trying to tell me. For me this looks like not worrying about what tomorrow may bring or what may be going on at home, but instead to be present where I am and go to him first for all worry. I can’t wait to press deeper into this and learn more ways I can be still.

Thank you for all of your prayers and encouragement. The lord is already doing so much and I can’t wait to start ministry this week!!
