Monday we returned from ministry and the guys on our squad told us to dress nice and be ready for dinner at a certain time. We were all so confused at what was happening! We all started picking out our outfits (out of our few options) and got ready. We all gathered and they called five girls in at a time. It was my groups turn to go in and one of the guys led us into the room and told us to sit down next to a bucket. They then washed our feet and thanked us for serving them well! Literally how awesome and kind is this? We then found a card with our names on it and sat in that spot. Each card had a note of encouragement for each of us and it was so nice! They also had flowers at each table for decorations. They served us dinner and then we all danced afterwards. Their thought and kindness was so appreciated by all of us girls.
This night reminded me of how Jesus sees us. He continually looked for ways to serve others and was so compassionate towards them. The men on our squad resembled so many characteristics of Jesus. They washed our feet like Jesus did here on earth, they encouraged us like Jesus does, and were so giving and kind just as Jesus is.
Thank you, men of T squad for showing us how we should be treated and more importantly, for representing who Jesus is. All of us felt loves, we felt valued, and we felt appreciated.
This week has been really good! In my class, we are working with the kids on colors, numbers, and we also introduced family. Guatemalans are very relationship oriented and so the kids love talking about their family. Every Thursday, we go to our village and simply ask the Lord what he wants us to do. We got the opportunity to pray for a family, a few elderly women walking around in the village, and a lady who is sick. Ruthie is the lady who is sick that we’ve gone two weeks in a row so far to pray for. She has kidney failure in both kidneys and her body is swollen really bad. She is so joyful and knows that Jesus is with her always, even when she’s suffering like this. We are believing big things for Ruthie and I’d invite you to pray healing over her and also for her whole family as this effects all of them. I’ve already fallen in love with Calderas (our village) and the people that live there. Please continue to pray for not only our English classes, but also the devotionals we do everyday with the kids. We’re praying that the Lord speaks to them through these and that he’ll speak in powerful ways our next two months with these kids.
Also, it was our ministry hosts birthday this week! It was so fun celebrating Angel and getting to have lunch with his whole family. I’m so thankful for the relationships we have with this family. It’s a joy to partner with them in what the Lord is doing in Calderas.
