Now that I have had a few months to process going on the World Race and becoming a full time missionary for nine months, I am still in disbelief that I have been blessed with this opportunity. If you would’ve told me a year ago that I was going to leave everything I know to live in a tent and tell people about Jesus, I probably would’ve said you were crazy. I had my whole life planned out. I was going to do what everybody else did; graduate in May and go to college in August. Little did I know, that God had a better plan for me. My plan for myself didn’t matter because HIS plan is always greater.
So what exactly does all of this entail? Well, I will be traveling with a group to four different countries: Guatemala, Thailand, Malaysia, and Swaziland. I will go to training camp in July for ten days where we will finally get to meet the people that will become family for nine months. After training camp is over, we will have a few weeks back home and then it will be time to go to launch. Launch is our final training before heading out to our first country. I am so excited to see what the Lord is going to teach me through this and also how he is going to use me and my team in order to further the kingdom.
Since getting accepted and picking my route, things have already been sticking out to me about what the Lord is trying to teach me.
1. Living for God isn’t going to be comfortable.
This is a big one for me. I am not the most outdoorsy type, it takes a while for me to get used to change, I overpack tremendously when it comes to trips, I like to know a schedule when I am getting ready to do something, etc. When it comes to the World Race, these are just a few of my worries. With all of that being said, I think the uncomfortable and uncertain aspects are why I love the idea of going on the World Race so much. The unplanned, uncomfortable, and unknowing situations are where people find who they are and tend to go to God the most. This ultimately leads to real and vulnerable relationships with people and an opportunity to lead others to Christ. When it comes down to it, these are just tiny details compared to the big things God is going to do through me, my team, and what he is going to teach us.
2. It’s all about trust.
Trust. It’s something that I am learning to improve each and every day. I am learning that this whole mission trip and the journey preparing to launch is all revolved around trusting in God. It’s about giving every single one of my worries to him and trusting that he is going to take care of them. It’s trusting that his name will be honored through fundraising and the the necessary funds will be provided. It’s trusting that through all of the awesome and hard times on this journey he has called me to, his name will be glorified through it all.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Please be praying for my team and I as we are working hard to prepare for what is ahead. Pray that through it all, we will trust in him and his perfect plan for us! I’m so thrilled to go on this mission trip and to share the love of Jesus all around the globe.
