I realized this week that I explain a lot about ministry, but have never explained what I do when I’m not at ministry. Here’s a brief summary of our weeks here:
Breakfast is served every morning during the week at 7 am. We have everything from pancakes, to yogurt and eggs, beans and plantains, and more. After breakfast, we have devotional time for 45 minutes. We either do it on our own or a staff member does a study called deep dive. From there, our team plans our lessons for english class. We also make activities, flashcards, or worksheets for class. With my remaining time, I like to spend more time with Jesus to pray for my family and friends at home and for their days. Next is lunch! We eat the famous PB&J quite often. We also eat tuna salad sandwiches, egg sandwiches, and more. Our bus for ministry comes at 12:20 everyday and we have about a 40 minute ride everyday to our village. For around an hour, we get to talk to our ministry hosts or we’ll go on house-visits to pray for families in the village. English class lasts for an hour and its so much fun!! We do a lot of games to learn the english and the kids love it. From then, we end english class in time to catch the 3:20 bus back down the mountain. The busses only come every hour and so we have to make sure to be there on time! Dinner is served at 5:30 and we have empanadas (everybody’s favorite), soup, stew, chicken and rice, and more. After dinner each night sometimes as a squad we have worship and teachings. We also do team time each night. This is blogging, journey markers (which are questions talking about our spiritual growth), worship, debrief, and feedback. The rest of the night its fun just getting to hang out with the rest of the squad. On Thursdays, we have something called activation. We worship with the staff here and then they do a teaching. I love it because after the teaching, we get to go practice what we learned in the villages where we do ministry. We have weekends off. I normally go to Antigua which is about a 45 minute chicken bus ride. We get to cook as teams, we explore Guatemala, and we also go to a church in english on Sundays. Sundays are my favorite because I usually get to go to a coffee shop and process the week and get ready for the next week of ministry. There’s a glimpse of what happens in everyday life here in Guatemala!
It’s been an interesting week for me spiritually. The Lord has been speaking a lot of tough things to me that I’m spending a bunch of time in prayer for. I ask that you will pray for peace over this all as I deal with it. I’m so thankful for you all and appreciate the prayers so very much!
With love, Bethany
