Some of these are if you are there in October and some are just things to know in general. Enjoy!

You can never have enough blankets, warm clothes or socks

Bring Vitamin C so you don’t get sick like everyone else

Don’t go straight into working when you get back, you will be exhausted and regret working the day after driving 7 hours

A spork and bowl/plate is a fantastic idea

-from someone who didn’t bring any of those

Bring instant coffee. You will want the warmth and the caffeine.

Go in with no expectations.

Try not to shower at night or in the morning because it will be very cold and you will regret it. Waiting in line during free time is better than taking a shower when it’s 40 degrees

If you have sensitive skin, bring your normal face wash and don’t use face wipes you’ve never used before. Also don’t wear head buffs that you haven’t washed yet. Your forehead may be like mine, and have a complete allergic reaction ??

Not my experience, but if you don’t have a rain fly on your tent, it will flood when it rains! So make sure you get one of those!

Time may seem like it’s going slow, but soak up everything you can because you will miss your people after those 10 days are over!

Record your sessions so you don’t miss any notes. But still take notes.

Take so many videos and pictures. You’ll regret not getting as many shots as you can!

Work hard to make connections with your fellow squad mates! After all, you will be living with them for a whole year!

Don’t put expectations on what leadership role God will have for you or if He will immediately present you with one. Everyone’s journey looks different and God will use you in some type of leadership sooner or later.

Train for your fitness hike!!

The biggest thing I learned though is that God has made you for this journey and He will provide in ways you never thought possible. When it’s hard, and you feel like giving up, keep going! God will stretch you and be there with you through the process. The hard things are what make you into what God wants you to be and ultimately more like Jesus.

Love and blessings,

Bethany
