Tomorrow I leave for training camp in Georgia! I am excited to meet all my squadmates I’ve already grown to love via our Facebook page, and especially to find out who will be on my specific team. Not really sure what to expect from camp, but imagine it will be a nice wake-up call for what’s to come on the race.

Several people have asked me to explain to them more general information about the World Race, and specifically what it is I’ll be doing. While we have no idea exactly where we’ll be going, or what type of ministry we’ll be doing there, this is info A.I.M. provides ….

“The World Race, a ministry of Adventures in Missions, is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries around the world, and it’s not your typical missions experience. It’s a way for young adults to abandon a traditional lifestyle in exchange for an experience bigger than themselves.

Through adventure, ministry, community, and self-discovery, World Racers gain hearts that move their hands to action. Through the community living and discipleship that take place you’ll come to understand your true identity as a daughter of the living God. You’ll begin to understand your role in the kingdom of God and how to play a part in bringing real change to this world.”

World Racers get their hands dirty in all kinds of ministry, whether it’s something familiar like children’s ministry or something completely new, such as planting churches in countries closed to the Christian message. Some of the experiences I could be a part of include…

Building Churches
                Fighting Human Trafficking
                                Caring for the Homeless
                                                Teaching English in Schools
                                                                Ministering through Prayer
                                                                                Living with Gypsies
                                                                                                Evangelizing door-to-door
                                                                                                                Providing orphans with homes
                                                                                                                                Reaching out to prostitutes
                                                                                                                                                Feeding the hungry
                                                                                                                                                                Preaching in the streets
What makes this trip different than others?

  1. Listening prayer: We’ll be taught how to hear God’s voice and respond in obedience.
  2. Discipleship: Building meaningful relationships with the local people
  3. Community: Living in authentic community with each other and those we’re ministering to.
  4. Ministry to the Poor: Racers go to the places of greatest need first.

Over a thousand other people have gone before me on the World Race, and I could not be more excited to embark on this journey! Thank you for your continued support!

(Trying on my heavy backpack for the first time…apologies I'm in my PJs, but guess you better get used to seeing me looking grungy in photos!)

This is a song I used to listen to over and over again on the subway commute to and from work. More than anything these words pushed me to the World Race.

Power of Your Name by Lincoln Brewster
“Surely children weren't made for the streets
And fathers were not made to leave
Surely this isn't how it should be
Let Your Kingdom come

Surely nations were not made for war
Or the broken meant to be ignored
Surely this just can't be what You saw
Let Your Kingdom come
Here in my heart

And I will live
To carry Your compassion
To love a world that's broken
To be Your hands and feet
And I will give
With the life that I've been given
And go beyond religion
To see the world be changed
By the power of Your name

Surely life wasn't made to regret
And the lost were not made to forget
Surely faith without action is dead
Let Your Kingdom come
Lord break this heart

Jesus Your name
Is a shelter for the hurting
and Your name
Is a refuge for the weak
Only Your name
Can redeem the undeserving
Jesus Your name
Holds everything I need”
