Many of you are probably wondering why I feel called to go on the World Race. How am I crazy enough to give up basically everything I own to follow God all over the globe? Why I am quitting a job I love, not using my degree, giving up my cushy downtown apartment, missing out on things here, and leaving the people I love for 11 months to live out of a backpack and sleep in a tent in third world countries?

Here's my top 10 reasons why:

  1. To learn to fully trust the Lord in all situations. To fully lean on Him and not on my own understanding.
  2. To see the world, especially places I wouldn't normally travel, and to get a feel for the way people around the world really live.
  3. To grow in my faith and relationship with God.
  4. To be challenged. To take myself out of my comfort zone.
  5. To tell people about Jesus, and to share the message about God's grace and forgiveness.
  6. To live in true community.
  7. To give up my dependence on money, technology and modern comforts.
  8. To meet new people, make new friends, experience new cultures, and gain a new perspective.
  9. To be more like Jesus—to live among the least of these, to love the unloved, and heal the broken.
  10. Because if Jesus died for me, I can do this. The Lord has blessed me so abundantly, how can I not answer His call to follow Him to the corners of the earth?

Music is one of the best ways for me to praise God (even though He didn't bless with me any musical talent,  I enjoy worshipping through song).  I'll share some of my favorites with you over the coming months. Here's the video for 'Follow You' by Leeland and Brandon Heath. The video is awesome because it was shot in Cambodia, which is one of the countries I'll be serving in! This song sums up why I want to go on the Wolrd Race.
