Literally. 27 years ago I came into the world. What did I get for my Birthday you ask? I got a blog. lol. Yep. Today I got access to my blog and my team Facebook. Less than a week ago I found out that I was accepted. Best Present ever. Hey Adventures in Missions, You gave me like one of the best presents. I get to go around the world with a great squad of ladies and gentlemen spreading love. Where do I sign? When am I leaving? Can it be sooner? Am I dreaming?
So the first post usually involves how I came to this decision. How I decided to go on the World Race. Honestly, I didn’t decide. It was decided for me according to my fellow racer Kristy Ramsey. She’s on the field now headed to Peru/her second month. It was a chain of racers. I have to pass the torch before I leave. Beth Milam started the spark. She started mentioning it on Facebook. I looked it up. Thought about it. Decided logistically speaking it would be hard. Put the idea to rest. She left in September of 2014. I started watching videos and reading blogs. The rest they say is history. God spoke. End of story.
I went to a friend’s Birthday dinner in December. She mentioned that Kristy was going too after I mentioned the World Race and that I was considering it. I messaged Kristy we had lunch. I started my application shortly after that. Fast forward to the beginning of January. I still hadn’t finished it but I had renewed my expiring passport. I continued to talk to Kristy. She continued to tell me to finish the application. We hung out one last time before she left to pack her pack. It was hilarious. I encourage you to have someone help you pack your pack. At one point we were rolling on the floor laughing because something wouldn’t fit in the space we wanted it too. We walked outside for me to leave. She told me that she already spoke to Jesus. And said you’re going on the World Race. It’s decided. So you can either finish your stuff or not. Either way you’re going. Jesus had already decided. With a Smirk she said you really don’t have a choice in the matter. I left after discussing gear, what she could tell me about training camp, how the World Race “works.”
I finished the application before she officially left the country.
I got accepted before she left Ecuador.
Now it’s up to me to continue to pass the torch before I leave. I’m at least 4th generation in this train of people. I have few ideas who it will be.
I got several great “gifts” for my birthday. Most of them weren’t material. FaceTime call from my friend in Ecuador, acceptance into World Race, blog access, my parents helping me brainstorm and facilitate fundraising ideas, a crazy trip to Atlanta, and of course some Italian food & chaco’s.
