We
had new teams announced last week. This is my first big change since
training camp, so it is a bit weird for me, but I know it will be
good. I am now on an all-girls team, with Carmen Record as our
leader; my other teammates are Samantha Allen, Jenny Ellis, and Aimee
Holladay. These four women will be spending the these last three
month with me on the race, so make sure you read their blogs to get a
better picture of what I’m up to in Nepal and Eastern Europe.

One
of the first things you always do as teams, on the world race, is
“make a memory.” As a team we decided to start with ice cream
from McDonald’s and see what happens from there. As we got out of
the rickshaw at the mall, there was a street girl asking us for food.
Jenny and Aimee convinced her to come with us to McDonald’s. Aimee
bought her a happy meal and a cone. We had fun laughing with her,
dancing to the music and watching her play with her barbie toy. She
wouldn’t tell us her name, but we decided to call her Julie.

We
went to the mall and she came with us. Jenny rode the elevator up
and down with her. When we walked out of the mall to look for food
she left us. A bit later, as we were walking to a coffee shop, Julie
ran up to us at an intersection. She came with us to the coffee shop
and stood outside the whole time we were there. She had put her hair
clip in her barbie and now seemed very attached to the doll. It was
sad to leave her, especially thinking about her life and what she has
and will experience. All she had with her, before the barbie, was a
little wallet with a couple of coins in it.

I
think this is one memory my team will not forget anytime soon. Oh,
and during that outing we came up with our team name; we are team
WO(men). People will be like, “Whoa!” when they see us, when
they see the way we’ve changed, when they see how God is in us.

much
love!
