What does it look like to simply live? Or to live simply? Are they the same? Or different? Is the answer dependent upon to whom the question is addressed?
This thought has formed slowly as I began to look around and take in different aspects of culture and the people during this first month of travel, observing the simple lives people in Bolivia and Peru live, seeing what they take joy in, and beginning to understand what is important to them. When I was sick last month for one day, this question really solidified in my mind. The conveniences of the general populous of the States, like heat, warm showers, and in door laundry facilities, are some things that I have become so accustom to. As I started to throw a pity party, because I was sick and uncomfortable, the Lord prompted me think about the people in these countries. He pointed out the abundance of fun and laughter in their lives, in spite of the “hardships”. They were finding happiness and meaning in the people around them not in things and conveniences. I am truly thankful for these beautiful people and the way the Lord used them to open my eyes to a heart issue that was keeping me from another aspect of truly living. Here’s to simply living and to living simply, y’all.
Blessings and love,
Bethany
