…is a happy heart

I am glad for what I have

That’s an easy way to start

For the love that we share ‘cause He listens to my prayers

That’s why I say thanks every day

(Thank you, Madame Blueberry ๐Ÿ™‚

So, I’ll let y’all into my head and heart. ๐Ÿ™‚ (Yes, I sometimes think in kids programs, well, maybe sometimes is an understatement. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have been learning lately about thankfulness and praying without ceasing through a book I am reading, “Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus” by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg.

The Jewish culture is saturated with thankfulness. They have a practice when they awake of thanking the Lord for returning their souls to them. When it rains they thank the Lord for the thunder that shows His might, the lightning that He created, and the rainbow that tells of His covenant. They even thank the Lord for teaching the rooster the difference between night and day. They pray approximately 100 times a day, and many of their prayers center around thanking the Lord. Now when I read the verse about praying without ceasing, it seems to speak of a continual thankful awareness and treasuring of the presence of the Lord in every area of our lives. Jewish tradition has a name for this awe and awareness of the mighty presence of our holy Lord, which is Kavanah. The rabbis believe Kavanah should be practiced in our daily prayer, study of the Scriptures, labors of loving kindness, and the activities of our life’s work. So, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18
