This month has been an unexpected blessing so far. If you did not know, this month my team was supposed to be living in Uganda. However, after taking the 12 hr. bus ride from Rwanda to Uganda we were informed that we must evacuate immediately due to the Ebola outbreak.

So less than 24 hours later we all got back into a bus and made the 8 hr. trip to Kenya. Throughout the whole travel from Rwanda, to Uganda, and then to Kenya, I got terribly sick. I remember reaching the Kenyan border at around 3 a.m. and feeling horrible. When we arrived at our ministry site at 8 a.m. I did not feel much better.

It was not the way I wanted to spend the first couple of days as team leader. The first day of meeting our contact and getting debriefed on the ministry, I laid in bed.

The following morning I went to the doctor and turns out I had the beginning stages of malaria and some flu like symptoms. Thankfully medicine in Africa is cheap and I quickly got on antibiotics.

I will have to say that the first few days here in Kenya were one of the hardest so far on the race. I feel like when anyone is sick, they automatically want their mom. And so I quickly became homesick.

But all of this was a blessing in disguise. If you have read my previous blog, you saw that I have been getting burnt out recently. Sickness does not really help with the whole burnt out issue, but the sickness has allowed me to take some much-needed rest. So I thank God for this blessing.

Also our contact this month is an American woman named Cheri. The ministry this month is working with former street children. There are 100 kids that live on the compound with us. We have come up with fun classes (music, art, bible, games) for the kids each morning and then in the afternoons we are helping around the property.

I am excited to see what God has in store for me this month. Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement.
