I am thrilled to say that I am writing this blog as I sit in my room in San Vicente, El Salvador. It has been a long journey to get here.  One thing that God taught me along the journey is about His calling and dreams.

I remember when God first gave me the dream to start a music school in El Salvador. I wasn’t sure of how I could do it or what it would look like.  But somehow a year later, we opened Betania Music School.

After the official opening of the school, I felt so much peace about coming to El Salvador for a more extended period of time. But as the time to leave drew nearer, problems arose. Things that I had been planning for months seemed to be falling a part. It seemed like doors were closing. I was confused, hurt, and upset. Why would God call me and then allow these problems?

I know many of us tend to use the doors open/ doors closed method.  When the passage seems easy and clear, we feel like God has opened a door and in a sense given us His blessing to pass through. But when things become difficult and hard, we feel like the door has closed and God no longer wants us to go through.

Nowhere in the Bible does it mention this method.  There are more closed doors in the Bible than opened ones.  Look at the disciples or the prophets. Many times they could say that the doors were closed. But it was when the doors seemed closed that God showed up. I actually think God likes closed doors more than open ones. He gets to show off when there is a closed door. You also have to rely on Him more when the door is closed.

And so this is what I have learned: Following God’s calling doesn’t always look like what you thought and many times your plans aren’t His plans.  But the change of plans or view doesn’t ever change His calling. If God has placed a desire or calling in your life; He will make a way. Things will most likely be difficult because this road is NARROW!

So hold on to His promises. He won’t call you to something and then leave you. He promises to go with you and hold your hand.  (Isaiah 41:10)
