Hi! Life update from Bethany.
I leave for the Philippines today & it’s about to be month 7 of the race!! This is crazy. God has taken me on the most amazing journey this past year. It has been the hardest – yet most rewarding season of my life.
Yes, on social media I post the fun adventurous things and miraculous Jesus stories, but there’s more most people don’t see. Like doing hard manual labor for the first two months and wondering what you’re doing for the people in the community. Or getting sick in a foreign country and not knowing whether to trust the medicine/doctors in the village. Being spiritually attacked in several countries because the devil knows we are impacting eternity. Gaining weight because you have to eat what your host feeds you and it’s always carbs. Or getting use to a squatty potty for most of your race. Living in community 24/7 can be a challenge when you have 0.000001% time alone. Or even stepping out of your comfort zone and preaching up to hundreds of people in the markets or local churches. Sleeping on the ground for months and not even remembering when the last time you had a hot shower was. Missing your family and friends like crazy! The list goes on and on – the struggles are real.
However, I am not writing this to you out of complaint. I am posting this because I want to let you know it’s all worth it. I wouldn’t change a second. I have found my true identity in Christ. He created me with a purpose and I am not an accident. I know He hears my every cry. He is faithful in every situation. I know that He loves me more in a moment than anyone can in a lifetime. He fights for me. He mends my heart when it breaks for this world and His people. I am not ashamed of the Gospel.
I am so grateful for this opportunity to go out and make disciples of all nations. He calls us to be the light of the world and His hands and feet. I wouldn’t trade any struggles I’ve had to face for this journey that the Lord has took me on. Thanks for reading! Prayers as I head to the Philippines for my last 3 months would be greatly appreciated 🙂
