Where were we?
This month, we worked in Chiang Mai, Thailand (Northern Thailand) and worked with Lighthouse in Action, part of YWAM Thailand.
What did we do?
Lighthouse in Action is divided up into different ministries dealing with sex trafficking. Our team worked with the girls from Team Sons and Daughters in a ministry called “Love Acts.” Each night, we would go out into the bars simply to love the people there and build relationships with them. The ultimate goal is to bring them out of the sex industry and into a place where they learn English, pick up a trade, and learn about Christ. Prayer was a huge part of the ministry, as we prayer walked in the mornings, had worship and prayer before people went into the bars, had people interceding while teammates were at the bars, and debriefed and prayed after the bars.
Most touching moment:
Receiving a beautiful scarf from a dear friend I made in a coffee shop.
Hardest moment:
Walking along bar street and seeing a 16-year-old girl I met a week earlier, who in a week’s time lost the sweet, innocent look in her eyes.
Best moment:
Thanking God for everything we could think of during our times of intercession… salvation, family, peanut butter, the sky, rotee, pad thai, mattresses to sleep on, etc.
Most embarrassing moment:
The most embarrassing was more than a moment. It was two hours of trivia that taught me how little I really know!
Favorite food:
Pad thai and rotee (Banana, Nutella crepes!)
Least favorite food:
Didn’t really have one. I LOVE THAI FOOD!
Things I miss this month (other than the obvious family and friends!)
Snow days
Hearing my niece call me “Aunt Beth”
Watching my brother dance
What has God taught me this month?
This is always a hard question because I feel like God teaches me SO much every month! He is continually teaching me the power or prayer. I have loved watching several prayers answered at home and have even enjoyed watching from afar, knowing that it was all God and I had absolutely nothing to do with it! Also, seeing the protection we experienced while out at the bars, both physically and spiritually, was such an answer to prayer that I am so thankful for!
God also has been teaching me that His strength is made perfect in my weakness. I am weak. Going into the bars was not something I was excited about. It was definitely one of the ministries I have been most afraid of. However, God turned my fear to joy and excitement each time I went out. In my weakness of not being able to carry on conversations, He shone through me. He worked and it was definitely all Him!
