We stepped out of the airport for our first glimpse of Guatemala and were greeted by people waiting for loved ones, drivers waiting to shuttle arriving passengers to local hotels, and little boys anxiously waiting for a customer who would let them shine their shoes. Three adorable little boys. Three boys I couldn’t take my eyes off of until we left the airport. In the hours that followed, I just couldn’t help but think of how unfair this world is and how I hate the injustice. These boys, who were not much older than my first grade students, spent their evenings begging for small jobs that likely only handed them a few coins. When was the last time these boys had a decent meal? What must their homes look like? Where are their parents? I didn’t even want to think about how many other boys and girls there are in Guatemala just like these three precious boys. While I had no interaction with them, I didn’t speak to them, and they won’t give me a second thought, I will remember them as children who reminded me of the injustice in the world, why I’m on the World Race, and the desire that God has placed in my heart to do what I can.

If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m in Guatemala! We landed yesterday (Saturday) and arrived at Agape in Action in Santa Cruz del Quiche, Guatemala this afternoon (Sunday). Our tents are set up in the field and we even had a little bit of time to explore the market. Dinner is cooking and should be ready in the next ten minutes (a fact we are all very excited about!) Ministries begin tomorrow and I found at that, at least for the next couple days, my team and I will be loving on children in a local orphanage! I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this ministry and the children we will meet tomorrow morning!

Thank you all for your support, prayers, and encouragement! I will definitely have tons more stories to share in the next couple weeks and hopefully some pictures too!
