Where were we?
We stayed in Santa Ana, El Salvador with Alberto and Mariella, a wonderful couple who provided so much for us. We were again blessed with indoor plumbing, internet, and our meals prepared for us.
What did we do?
We partnered with a church, Tabernaculo Biblico Bautista, for several different ministries, including painting the church, praying for women and children in the hospital, doing school presentations, handing out food to people on the streets, and visiting prisons. We also shared our testimonies in the church, helped lead some worship, and worked in the children’s ministry.
Most touching moment:
Having my feet washed by Alberto and Mariella and hearing their story and hearts on one of our last night’s there.
Hardest moment:
Letting down a teammate in her time of need…. But a great reminder of how faithful our God is!
Best moments:
- Piling people in the back of the truck on trips to church, San Salvador, or any other adventure our contact decided to take us on.
- Holding an adorable baby in the nursery.
- Hearing the testimonies of some of my squad mates.
- Quality time with the Lord, learning to love Him more and more each day.
Most embarrassing moment:
After giving my testimony in front of the church, my flip flop broke and I slid my way across the stage and down the ramp before finally just taking it off! Old Navy, you failed me!!!
Favorite food:
Coconut popsicles
Least favorite food:
The food this month was amazing and I honestly can’t think of anything I really didn’t like!
Things I miss this month (other than the obvious family and friends!)
Watching Jeopardy with my brother, Joel
My Study Bible
What has God taught me this month?
- “O ye of little faith!” God has been teaching me that He is everywhere, even in the trash dump and the prison, that He can do anything (including bring 600 people to the small church where we were serving), and that I need to trust Him even when I don’t see the results or outcome. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” ~Hebrews 11:1
- Ministry comes in all different forms. Sometimes ministry includes spending the day in prayer or just encouraging your teammates.
- I need to and can find my rest in Him and Him alone. When I need an outlet, He is the One who I need to turn to instead of taking a walk (which I can’t do alone here) or playing the piano (which I don’t have here!). He is a great listener!
