For those not familiar with "Semper Gumby", it's colloquial military speak for "always flexible", usually due to last minute changes or unexpected developments.
WR launches four squads of about 50 people three times a year (Jan, July & Sept). Just like other organizations, WR accepts more people than can actually go because they know some people will drop out, not raise enough funds, etc. God apparently had other plans. Going into training camp, we had so many people that the 4 squads were too big to be effective and logistically manageable so, for the first time in WR history, they created a 5th squad! A week before training camp, an email went out about the creation of a 5th squad and asked for volunteers to switch to the new route.
Semper Gumby!
While I loved being on A squad and was excited about my route, I knew the new route was for me. I am now officially on C Squad! Everyone on my new squad was originally on another squad. We had no idea that we would be serving together on a route that didn’t even exist when we applied. God's plans are better than ours and when He makes a change, we say, "Semper Gumby" and go where He leads.
We will now be traveling to 4 continents over the next year! My new route is:
Honduras
Guatemala
El Salvador
Albania
Bulgaria
Mozambique
Malawi
Zambia
Thailand
Cambodia
Malaysia!
God has been doing amazing things since we first came together on C Squad (I'll talk more about Training Camp in my next blog). It has been an adjustment for everyone on our squad as we've let go of our expectations and plans for our old routes and squads and shared in the excitement for this new route. I feel so blessed and excited to be a part of this route He created from nowhere and the squad He brought together to serve it.
